Interesting Stoke City news emerges that could impact their transfer window

Published

on

Stoke City’s head of recruitment is being linked with a move to Premier League Burnley, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Mark Cartwright is a former professional goalkeeper who spent time with Shrewsbury, later working as an agent in retirement.

He joined up with Stoke in 2012 and is now in charge of recruitment at the bet365 Stadium.

His work has clearly caught the eye of Burnley, who have shortlisted him as a potential new technical director, set to work alongside Sean Dyche.

There’s other candidates, one of which is former Nottingham Forest boss Mark Warburton, but Cartwright is in the frame and will be interviewed.

Warburton is thought to be the favourite, he’s close friends with Dyche and is currently out of work, but it will still be a concern to the Potters so close to the transfer window.

They’ve struggled to impose themselves on the Championship promotion race and Gary Rowett will surely be looking to dip his toe into the market this summer, with a lack of goals one of the pressing issues facing them at the moment.

The Verdict

This is worrying for Stoke, how can they have an effective window if their head of recruitment leaves before it opens? Could they appoint quickly enough to still have the impact they desire?

Or, in signing the likes of Sam Clucas and James McClean, is it perhaps time for a change of staff there? It might not be the worse news Stoke City fans have heard in a while after all.
