Sky Bet Championship side Queens Park Rangers have drawn up a four-man shortlist of candidates to replace Steve McClaren at Loftus Road, according to reports from West London Sport.

The West London club parted company with the former England manager on Monday night, having won one of their last 15 league games, falling to 17th in the league standings.

It is believed that former Stoke manager Gary Rowett is on the R's radar - the former Stoke manager was relieved of his duties at the bet365 Stadium in January and was approached by director of football Les Ferdinand when managing Birmingham City.

Michael Appleton is also believed to be on the club's radar - the 43-year-old left his role as Leicester City assistant manager at the end of last season. The former Blackburn and Portsmouth manager guided Oxford United to promotion from League Two in 2016, before departing for the King Power Stadium.

Former Brentford manager Mark Warburton is also a popular figure among the QPR board - the 56-year old has been out of work since he was sacked by Nottingham Forest last season.

The former Rangers boss guided R's' West London rivals to promotion from League One in 2014, and led them to the Sky Bet Championship play-off semi-finals the year after.

The final name on QPR's radar is believed to be Tim Sherwood - the former England midfielder, who previously worked with Ferdinand at Tottenham, has been a long-term target for the latter since their partnership at White Hart Lane.

The Verdict

This is a very interesting development, with various types of managers being linked with a move to Loftus Road.

If I were a QPR fan, I would be urging the club to avoid Rowett at all costs - he spent so much money whilst in charge of Derby and Stoke and failed massively.

Mark Warburton could be a good shout - he worked wonders at Brentford and works well on a limited budget.
