Preston North End are understood to have shortlisted a trio of managers to succeed Alex Neil, according to reports from TeamTALK.

The Lilywhites are said to be contemplating a new manager to replace Alex Neil after a disappointing start to the season - their 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic at the weekend was only their second win of the campaign and stopped a run of ten league games without a win.

It is now believed, that North End have shortlisted a trio of managers to succeed the Scotsman, with Lincoln City manager Danny Cowley and former West Ham United boss David Moyes also on the list.

The latter managed the club between 1998 and 2002 and also played for the club for over six years, however his wage demands may be too much for chairman Peter Ridsdale.

Imps boss Cowley has took his Lincoln side to the top of the League Two table, and has rejected a fair share of offers over the last two years from teams in the Championship.

The win over the Latics may spark North End into life, and the club now sit 22nd in the league.

The Verdict

This is an interesting development for sure.

Preston's performances have been there in recent weeks, after drawing 3-3 at Villa and obviously winning 4-0 at home to Wigan on Saturday, so maybe Ridsdale may now re-evaluate his stance on the situation.

Moyes would be a shrewd appointment at this level, whilst Cowley is one of the most promising, young managers in the country.
