Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack has been spotted watching Motherwell this weekend, as Birmingham Live reports on rumours he could be heading back to the club where it all started for him.

The 32-year old has been on loan in the A-League with Central Coast Mariners, but that ended prematurely when he picked up a knee injury as they endured their worst ever start to a season.

That leaves him in limbo once move, unlikely to get a break at Villa but looking where to ply his trade in the second half of the season.

Yesterday, he was spotted at New Douglas Park as Hamilton lost 2-1 to rivals Motherwell, sparking rumours he could be about to pen a short term loan deal with his former club.

After coming through the ranks at Rangers, McCormack moved to Fir Park and represented Motherwell for two seasons, scoring 14 times in 57 outings. That prompted Cardiff to take him south of the border, stating a long and somewhat nomadic career around the English divisions.

Motherwell are now ninth in the table, seven points clear of Hamilton who sit just inside the bottom three.

The Verdict

If McCormack wants regular football one thing is for certain, his wages will have to be slashed considerably. It might be that after the awful few years he's had, he wants to get on the pitch and play. Where better than the club where his reputation started to grow?

Of course, he could just be back home at Christmas watching a game. Who knows?
