Middlesbrough could be set for a very busy January as Tony Pulis looks to reshape his squad ahead of a crucial second half of the season.

A run of four games without a win in the league, combined with a surprise exit to Burton in the League Cup, has soured the mood on Teesside.

Fans are becoming increasingly unhappy with the results and the style of play and the Northern Echo has revealed that Pulis has big plans in January.

They state that three forward players could leave the Riverside in the New Year – Britt Assombalonga, Martin Braithwaite and Rudy Gestede.

None of the players are regulars at the moment and they could be used to free up some space and funds for the manager in the market, with attacking reinforcements a priority.

Boro lost the influential Adama Traore in the summer, whilst Patrick Bamford was also sold to Leeds, and scoring goals has been a problem for the side this season.

Despite that, they still occupy the final play-off position as we approach the busy Christmas period.

The Verdict

Clearly something needs to be done at Boro in January and they need some new faces to help bring creativity to the side.

If those three do depart then Pulis needs to be seriously backed and the new signings will need to make an instant impact.

However, something has to change and this could be the catalyst for a positive end to the season.
