Leeds United winger Jack Clarke has been impressing teammates in training despite the fact he has not played in the Championship this season.

The youngster rejoined the Whites on a season-long loan after completing a big-money move to Tottenham in the summer, however he has struggled on his return. The teenager hasn't even made the matchday squad for the previous five outings.

Unsurprisingly, that prompted talk that the wide man will be recalled by Spurs in January.

Yet, according to Football Insider, Clarke is starring in training and they claim senior players have stated he is an 'absolute nightmare' to defend against.

Despite this, it seems highly unlikely that the 18-year-old will be involved for the Whites when they take on Derby County in the early kick-off today.

That's after he played 90 minutes for Carlo Corberan's U23 side as they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Hull City yesterday.

The likes of Helder Costa, Jack Harrison and Pablo Hernandez are ahead of Clarke in the pecking order, with rules limiting clubs to five loan players per matchday squad not helping him either.

The verdict

This is very interesting and it is good for fans to hear as it shows Clarke isn't sulking about not playing and is instead fighting to get in the XI.

That's the exact attitude he needs to have, even if it doesn't seem to have helped him in terms of today's game.

Moving forward though, those ahead of him can lose form or could suffer with injuries. A lot can change very quickly in football and this suggests that Clarke is ready when that opportunity does arise.
