Former Birmingham City hero Michael Johnson has had some interesting words to say about prolific marksman Che Adams.

Adams is a wanted man, with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur both reportedly in the race to sign the 21-goal machine.

The Express is reporting that the two Premier League juggernauts want the 22-year-old as they look to add young, English firepower to their attacking ranks.

And the former Blues defender has claimed the striker would be the perfect fit for either of the two heavy hitters in England’s top flight.

Adams scored two this past weekend against Blackburn Rovers to get him over the 20-goal mark in a Championship campaign – and became the first Birmingham player to do so since Steve Claridge did in over 20 years.

There was interest in the January window from Southampton and Burnley who both had several offers rejected by the club.

But Johnson has spoken to the Express to discuss where he feels Adams would be better suited if he were to move to the Premier League.

“I think that there are a few different types of striker in the Premier League and I don’t think he would fit in at a team that isn’t about physically and likes to play their way through to goal slowly.

“I could see Adams at Tottenham, with the way they play.

“I tend to see him as a player that wants to be physical and wants the ball in behind to use his pace.

“I think he would also fit in perfectly at a team like Liverpool.”

The verdict

I am in agreement with Johnson that if given the chance, Adams could flourish at either club.

Spurs could well be the better option with the track record they have of developing young players to play in the first team.

Adams will almost certainly be in the Premier League next season and having turned down bids from two lower-end clubs in January; it now sees as if the striker could well have the freedom of the league to pick from.
