Derby County appear to be set for fresh investment after two Board of Directors stepped down.

The club confirmed this evening that David Williams and John Kirkland had left their roles with immediate effect, with Williams telling the official site that it's because of the new financial backing that is on its way.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the Board but with the club preparing itself for potential new investment, I feel it is a natural step to move aside and allow my place on the Board for any new investor."

Current owner Mel Morris reiterated in the summer that he is open to new investment coming into the club, whether it's for a percentage of the club or a complete takeover.

As you would expect, this news has excited a lot of Derby fans who have known for a long time that talks have been going on but things appear to have quietened down in recent weeks until this update.
