Blackburn Rovers will look to further boost their play-off hopes of a play-off place on Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Griffin Park to take on Brentford.

Back to back wins over Hull and Charlton mean that Tony Mowbray's side will go into that clash with the Bees eighth in the Championship table, three points off the play-off places.

But despite a 1-0 defeat to Blackburn at Ewood Park back in November, Brentford will go into the game with their eyes fixed on automatic promotion as they sit fourth in the second-tier standings, four points adrift of the top two, making this a difficult task for Rovers this weekend.

With that in mind, we've taken a look at the starting lineup that Mowbray could name to give his side the best possible chance of returning from the capital with all three points.

With that Rovers' preferred 4-2-3-1 formation serving them well in recent weeks, it would be a surprise if Mowbray does not employ that system again at Griffin Park.

In goal, Christian Walton should continue, after taking his clean sheet tally this campaign to 11 with that 2-0 win at Charlton last time out, a return only bettered by Leeds' Kiko Casilla in the Championship this season.

Ahead of Walton, with Derrick Williams once again set to be absent from the matchday squad through injury, it looks as though the established first-choice back four of Ryan Nyambe, Tosin Adarabioyo, Darragh Lenihan and Amari'i Bell should remain unchanged against the Bees.

With recent weeks seeing Bradley Johnson rediscover some of the form that saw him establish such an effective partnership with Lewis Travis at the start of the season, it ought to be that duo who start in the holding midfield roles for a fourth straight game on Saturday.

One change that could come for Rovers is in the attacking midfield positions.

With Sam Gallagher back in contention after missing the last two games through injury, the summer signing could return to the starting lineup in the right-wing position he has occupied for much of the campaign.

That would then allow Stewart Downing to move back to the left-hand side of Blackburn's attack, which would enable the club's joint-top scorer this season, Adam Armstrong, to move into a central position where he has been most effective in recent months, having been played out on the left at The Valley.

What that would mean, is that 20-year-old John Buckley - who opened the scoring against Charlton via a deflection - would be the somewhat unfortunate man to drop of the side on Saturday.

If Armstrong does return to that central role this weekend, it could see him play in behind Dominic Samuel, who led the line impressively in his first start of the season at Charlton last week, meaning Mowbray may well feel the 25-year-old deserves to keep his place at Griffin Park.

Should Samuel do that, then the striker - who has been restricted eight appearances in the last two seasons by injury - would make his 50th appearance for the club this weekend.
