Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett has revealed that Michael Jacobs will be back in training next week with the Pompey squad in a boost to the League One side.

Pompey are going for promotion once again this season in the third tier and currently lie in sixth place.

After play-off heartache in the last two years, though, they'd surely like to seal an automatic place and time will tell if they can in the coming weeks and months.

Next week, though, they're going to get a boost as Jacobs returns to the grass after a ligament injury that he picked up against Sunderland earlier in the season.

Indeed, manager Kenny Jackett confirmed the news, with him quoted by the Portsmouth News as saying:

"Next week and Michael will be back in training. It’s gone well.

"It was a bad tackle at Sunderland and it could’ve been a lot worse with it being a knee ligament injury.

"He’s recovered well, though, and will be back in training with us."

The Verdict

Jacobs is a good player and one that shone for Wigan before heading to Fratton Park.

He'd been a regular for Pompey up to the injury, though, and there were fears, as there always are with a knee problem, that he would be out for quite a while.

However, he has defied any pessimistic predictions and will be back in training next week, allowing him to get up to speed in time for the Christmas period and into the new year.
