West Bromwich Albion centre-back Ahmed Hegazi has said he is “feeling all good” following his return to training this week.

The 28-year-old has missed the start of the season as he has been recovering from having ankle surgery in the summer.

The Egyptian has made 85 appearances for the Baggies since he joined the club in the summer of 2017 and was an integral part of the side last season, featuring 43 times.

He returned to training this week and though his return date is not yet known, Hegazi was optimistic about his recovery when speaking to the club website.

He said: “I’m feeling all good.

“I’m very happy to be back in training and the ankle is feeling fine. There is no date for a return to playing yet but we will see how I progress from here.

“I have come back a little bit quicker than was expected which is good for me. The team is doing well and we just need to keep this momentum going.”

Under new boss Slaven Bilic, West Brom have made a solid start to the season and are currently sixth, with 13 points from seven games.

They face struggling Huddersfield Town and new manager Danny Cowley at the Hawthorns on Sunday.

The Verdict

This is great news for the Baggies, as Hegazi has been a fantastic player since he joined and has served them well in both the Premier League and the Championship.

In Semi Ajayi and Kyle Bartley, they currently have a centre-back duo who are building a partnership together and have looked solid, so there is no need to rush the Egyptian back.

It will be very interesting to see how Bilic approaches the situation once Hegazi is fully fit and which of the two players he feels are his best two centre-backs.
