Long-serving Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor has shared a video on his Instagram story with the caption ‘soon be back’, with the player seemingly appearing to be on the back of an exercise bike.

The 31-year-old picked up a calf injury over two months ago in the 0-0 home draw with Brentford, but could be close to a return after stepping up his recovery in the gym in recent weeks.

Agbonlahor had been in decent form prior to his injury, having racked up a goal and an assist in only four league appearances before being sidelined for an extended period.

Villa have drastically improved in recent weeks under manager Steve Bruce, with the Villains lying in the Sky Bet Championship play offs spots after sixteen games, just seven points away from an automatic promotion spot.

The academy graduate has it all to do if he is to break back into the first team upon his return to full first team training, and will hope his early season form continues.

The Verdict

Villa have done well in Agbonlahor’s absence, and not many fans will have missed or even noticed the player missing from the squad in the past couple of months.

Often a scapegoat for Villa’s woeful form in recent years, Agbonlahor was beginning to finally rediscover the ability which earned him three England caps as a youngster, but injury severely halted his progress.

If the player wishes to see out his playing days with the club, he must do enough upon his return to the squad to convince Bruce he still has a role to play, otherwise his position could seriously be called into question.

Villa fans, can Agbonlahor play a key role this season upon his return? Have your say below...
