Billy Sharp has played a crucial part in Sheffield United's promotion push this season and he will be hoping to put a dent in Leeds' promotion ambitions when the two heavyweights face off on Saturday.

Sharp spent one season with Leeds before moving back to the Blades where he has been in excellent form ever since his disappointing spell at Elland Road.

In an interview with the Sheffield Star, Sharp revealed that he could have stuck around at Elland Road had his boyhood club not come back in for him.

"I always had this feeling I would go there," he said. "I'm not sure why, but I remember telling my dad I thought it would happen at some point.

“If it wasn't for United coming in for me, I might still be there because I've got a soft spot for that city as well."

It has been a complete reshuffle at Leeds since Sharp was last at the club, but one of the few remaining players from his time at Elland Road is captain Liam Cooper.

"He is probably the only one there now from when I was there," Sharp said.

"He loves playing for Leeds, I know that and signed a new contract not long ago and is captain of the club."

Sharp stated that he has been in regular contact with Cooper ahead of the game and revealed that the Leeds defender has been full of praise for Marcelo Bielsa and the new style being implicated at Elland Road:

"He has told me that the manager has been really good in terms of their regime, structure and play and how they go about it.

It's sure to be a closely fought battle at Bramall Lane on Saturday and Sharp will be hoping to get one over on his former club, showing them exactly what they are missing in their promotion bid this season.

The Verdict

If Sharp was still at Leeds then they would have the missing piece in their jigsaw for promotion.

He has been leading from the front for Chris Wilder's Sheffield United side this season and is a crucial to their promotion bid.

Leeds could do with a striker to push Kemar Roofe for a starting spot and Sharp could have been the perfect man to do just that.
