Brentford face a serious battle to keep hold of striker Neal Maupay in January, with Premier League side Huddersfield Town keen on the player.

Reliable journalist Alan Nixon has revealed on twitter today that the Terriers want the 22-year-old and suggested they are prepared to pay 'big money' to land him.

Maupay has been a shining light in what has been a tough season for the Bees so far.

Despite the side currently flirting with relegation, with Thomas Frank's men just four points above the relegation zone, the French striker has been flying.

He has bagged 13 goals from his 19 appearances so far this season, along with weighing in with six assists.

That makes him comfortably the most productive player at Griffin Park and it's not surprising to see that his form has not gone unnoticed.

As well as that, Maupay has impressed with his overall play, with the striker comfortable in leading the line for the possession-based side.

The Bees have a history of selling their key men if a big bid comes in, with Ryan Woods, Jota and Scott Hogan examples of that.

The Verdict

This is not very surprising at all, and you can imagine several other top-flight sides are monitoring Maupay.

He has had a fine season and is ruthless in front of goal, so this is inevitable.

History suggests that Brentford won't stand in his way should a suitable offer come in, but they really do need to get a significant fee as he is a player with huge potential and they need to look at the impact it could have on the side in mid-season.
