Diogo Jota wants to stay with Wolves next season.

The Portuguese forward joined the club on a season-long loan from Atletico Madrid last season as part of a group of ambitious signings that the board made, as they gave substantial backing to Nuno Santo.

Jota certainly made his mark on the Championship with 17 goals and five assists in 44 games. The clinical nature of Jota and the rest of the front three helped propel Wolves to the Championship title with 99 points in a dominant campaign.

Wolves confirmed in January that they would be taking up the option to sign him permanently at the end of the season, but they appear to have stalled on that based on Jota's recent comments, as quoted by Mais Futebol: "For the next season I still have nothing defined, I still have nothing signed."

"I want to stay. Everything that has happened this season leads me to believe that the next season can be good for me in the Premier League but, as I said, nothing is still signed and I can not give anything for granted. "

"It was a great year, not just for me but for the whole club, Wolverhampton. Everything went very well. "

The Verdict

This is unlikely to be anything serious because Wolves were obviously heavily interested in January and he has performed well all season, so the delay is probably due to Wolves ensuring that their long-term plans are sorted before they confirm the deal.

Wolves spent substantially last summer and the money on offer in the Premier League suggests that they will do the same this summer because they have ambitious owners.

The three promoted teams all avoided relegation last season, with Newcastle finishing 10th, so a top half is feasible with the right investment.
