Hull City have announced that defender Angus MacDonald has been given the all-clear from bowel cancer, which has drawn an excited response from fans of the Yorkshire club.

Having taken part in pre-season and featured in three games in the early part of the 2019/20 campaign, MacDonald was diagnosed with early-stage bowel cancer back in August.

The Tigers announced today that the 27-year-old's treatment had been successful and that he had been given the all-clear from bowel cancer.

In a statement on the club website, Hull expressed their happiness at the "fantastic news" and praised MacDonald's "tremendous courage and strength of character during the most challenging of periods".

The defender joined the club from Barnsley in January 2018 but after featuring regularly in the second half of the 2017/18 campaign, discovered a blood clot in his calf in September that year and spent 10 months on the sideline.

MacDonald was just three games into his return when he was diagnosed with bowel cancer in August.

The club have not set a date for the defender's return but stated that they "look forward to seeing Angus back in and around the club".

The 27-year-old, who has spent much of his career in the lower leagues, will no doubt be determined to get back in action with the first team as soon as he can.

The news has been very well received by fans of the Yorkshire club, with many taking to Twitter to express their excitement.
