As quoted by Get West London, Fulham defender Matt Targett has revealed that he is open to staying at Craven Cottage past this season.

Much of the post-January window chatter in West London surrounded the arrival of Aleksandar Mitrovic until the end of the season.

He's shown why, too, with plenty of goals since but Targett has been no less valuable to the Fulham cause with him providing much needed balance and the opportunity for Ryan Sessegnon to play further forward.

Indeed, the Lilywhites have not yet lost with Targett in the side and it looks as though he might be open to staying at the club instead of going back to Southampton past the end of this season.

He said:

"[Staying at Fulham next season] is certainly an option, everyone wants to play Premier League football and if Fulham are in the Premier League then I don't see why not."

Clearly, then, Targett is up for sticking around providing Fulham get into the Premier League and, right now, you can certainly see that happening.

The Verdict

The likes of Tom Cairney, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ryan Sessegnon will get much of the plaudits this season for Fulham but Targett has been a vital cog.

He goes under the radar but is as solid as they come and has allowed Fulham to express themselves further forward.
