Sky Sports reporter Pete O'Rourke has revealed that Exeter City striker Ollie Watkins has arrived at Brentford for a medical ahead of a projected move to the West London club.

It was reported yesterday that Brentford were closing in on the League 2 starlet, and the deal appears to be at a very advanced stage, as the Bees hunt for the firepower that can see them enjoy a successful Championship season.

Watkins enjoyed a successful campaign last season with Paul Tisdale's side, making 52 appearances in all competitions, finding the back of the net on 16 occasions and laying on 13 assists for team mates.

That goal haul included a double in the second leg of the Grecians' play-off semi final clash with Carlisle United, although he was unable to repeat the feat in the Wembley showpiece final, as Exeter were seen off 2-1 by Gary Bowyer's Blackpool.

Watkins has made 78 Exeter appearances, since making his debut in 2013, scoring 26 times, to add to the 10 goals he bagged during a loan spell at Weston-super-Mare in the 2014/15 campaign.

Despite never having played above League 2 level, Brentford are clearly confident that the 21-year-old hitman can adjust to the challenge of jumping up two divisions, and continue his goalscoring form from last season in the Championship.

The forward is certainly highly-rated, as he won the EFL Young Player of the Year award last season, and Brentford fans will hope to see the frontman continue the form that earned him the award.
