Mansfield Town chairman, John Radford said that the decision to sack manager David Flitcroft after just over a year in charge, following their defeat in the League Two play-off semi-finals, had been made with a "heavy heart" as confirmed in a statement on the club website.

The Stags were in the automatic promotion places for much of the season, but dropped out of the top three on the final day of the campaign following a three-game losing streak.

So was Flitcroft's sacking by Mansfield harsh?

We discuss........

Gary Hutchinson

“Absolutely not, no.

“He had a top squad, arguably the best in the division and yet never got them playing.

“Grant, Walker, Ajose, Hamilton, Benning, Pearce; these are top players in League Two.

“How they didn’t go up is beyond me. He had to go.”

George Brooks

"I think so.

"It was a massive disappointment for Mansfield to miss out on promotion this season but the team have made significant progress under Flitcroft.

"He has improved their defensive record and the football has been good to watch.

"He was building something at the club and I think he deserved another chance to try to achieve promotion next season."

Jacob Potter

"In today’s game, it’s the right move.

"For a club of Mansfield’s stature in League Two, Flitcroft will have known what the targets were for him this season and that would have been promotion.

"He needed to do that, and having not achieved it, Mansfield had no other option than to dismiss him.

"They’ll surely have a replacement lined up in the near future."
