Leeds United defender Ben White is enjoying an excellent loan spell at Elland Road from Brighton, performing at such a level that Manchester United are monitoring the 22-year-old closely with a view to a potential bid, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

White is already on a number of Premier League clubs wishlists with Liverpool known to rate the youngster who has previously spent loan-spells at both Newport County and Peterborough United.

So with all this top flight interest and after such a good start to the season, how much is White worth?

We discuss.........

Josh Cole

“When you consider that English players tend to go for premium prices in today’s market, White may already be worth in the region of £20m.

“Since joining Leeds on loan from Brighton in the summer, the defender has emerged as a mainstay in Bielsa’s starting eleven which is no mean feat given the quality of the club’s squad.

“As well as being excellent on the ball, White is also a fantastic reader of the game in a defensive sense and thus seemingly has all the qualities needed to thrive at the highest level.

“Providing that he continues to impress for Leeds over the coming months, it would not be at all surprising if one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs make a substantial offer to Brighton next year.”

Ben Lang

"It should be remembered that White is playing his first season of regular Championship football this term, but I still think his performances so far have warranted a £20million price tag at this stage.

"The 22-year-old has settled into the Leeds defence with ease during the club's solid start to the season, and his presence has ensured that the Whites have not missed Pontus Jansson following his summer departure.

"White has produced strong defensive showings while always looking comfortable on the ball, and his performances will have surely earned him interest from the Premier League already this term.

"Leeds will also be interested in sealing the permanent services of White following the expiration of his loan, but they may be out-priced for the Englishman if his performances continue in the same vein, as this could see his value rise closer to £30million."

Jordan Rushworth

“Given the sorts of figures being paid for Championship centre backs during the last few transfer windows, with Adam Webster’s move from Bristol City to Brighton in the summer a key example, White should be worth at least between £20m and £25m in the current market.

“White has excelled so far this campaign under Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road, with the defender showing an excellent ability to read the game, as well as an ability to deal with some of the Championship’s most dangerous forwards.

“The defender’s ability in possession is also highly impressive, and has seen him slot straight in to the Leeds team and help to improve the Whites’ distribution from the back and into midfield – and given the ever growing demand for ball playing centre backs, White is certainly a player who will be in demand from a number of clubs.

“White is likely to only improve as the season progresses and if he can help Leeds go one better than last season and earn promotion to the Premier League, his value should only increase heading into the summer transfer window.”
