Derby County’s first win in five was marked by a stunning opener from Rams striker Mason Bennett on 62 minutes, after he directed the ball over his shoulder from 12-yards to beat the stranded Wigan keeper and level the score at 1-1.
Derby went on to secure the win and stop the rot when Scott Malone scored their second on 78 mins.
But was Bennett’s goal, the best of this season so far?
“I think it probably was/is so far.
“John McGinn’s strike against Wednesday is obviously spectacular too, but the audacity of Bennett’s flick takes it for me.
“But I am a sucker for the unusual in football.”
“It certainly was spectacular.
“The nonchalance of it, and the slice of fortune – I think it was a class finish.
“Jack Grealish’s volley is up there, but I think the level of difficulty for Bennett’s was so that it has to be the goal of the season – so far.”
“I’ve not seen all the goals, but you’ll go some way to beat Shay McCartan’s strike for Lincoln at Swindon.
“The technique looked great, but did he mean it?
“In the Championship, I’ve not seen better.”
