Leeds United missed out on Huddersfield winger Rajiv van la Parra, when the 27-year-old chose a loan move to Middlesbrough rather than make the journey to Elland Road in the January transfer window.

Boro secured the former Dutch U21 international because they made a more concrete offer to the player and made him feel they were doing everything they could to secure his services, the player has suggested in an interview with ELF Voetbal.

So in light of the injuries and suspensions to key personnel suffered by Leeds this season, should they have done more to sign Van la Parra?

We discuss.....

Louie Chandler

"In hindsight, yes.

"But it is easy to criticise now. At the time they were seemingly dead certainties to bring Daniel James in who would have been a better signing.

"Obviously, it looks like they should have pushed harder now, though."

Jacob Potter

"They should have tried harder.

"Van La Parra would have been the ideal player to have in the Leeds squad going forward for the remainder of the season.

"His pace and trickery make him one of the best wingers in the Championship on his day. Leeds could live to regret not finalising a deal."

Gary Hutchinson

“Not if he didn’t want to be there.

“There’s a misconception that any player can go to any team,

“You have to ask why he snubbed them.

“Lack of ambition? Fear of competition?

“Whatever reason, it marks him out as one to avoid.”

Jay Taylor

“Leeds could have done all they wanted to, but it was the player who rejected the club.

“Van La Parra could have been given the world at Elland Road but if he didn’t want to join – he was ever going to join. It’s that simple.

“Leeds probably did all they could but at the end of the day, it’s out of their hands if the player has choices of where to go.”
