‘In hindsight, they’ll be annoyed’ – After player blow, Aston Villa may regret transfer call: Opinion

If life was not hard enough for Dean Smith at Aston Villa, he has taken another blow after it was confirmed that full-back Alan Hutton will be out for a ‘number of weeks’ after over-stretching his medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his knee, as reported in the Birmingham Mail.

Though a blow, Smith will be relieved that the ligament is not ruptured, that would have led to a longer period on the side-lines, but it does still raise the question as to who will replace Hutton over the next few weeks.

With 21-year-old full-back James Bree having been allowed out on loan by Dean Smith, it means Villa are short of an obvious replacement.

So will Villa regret letting Bree go out on loan?

We discuss…..

Jacob Potter

“In hindsight, they’ll be annoyed.

“Hutton’s injury couldn’t have come at a worse time and they’ll definitely be regretting sending Bree out on loan for the remainder of the season.

“It means they’ll be playing a player out of position now, and that is far from ideal for Dean Smith’s side.”

Gary Hutchinson

“I don’t think they will.

“They’ll want Tuanzebe back soon, but they can’t regret loaning Bree.

“For me, he wasn’t Villa standard.

“Not replacing Hutton before now is the main regret.”

Jay Taylor

“They have other players who can slot into the position like Ahmed Elmohamady, so there is cover there.

“It just leaves Villa short at the back once more this season as they have been for the most part.

“James Bree has not lived up to the expectation so the loan will be better for him as he can get consistent game time and not just to cover an injury.”
