Leeds United suffered a potentially season-defining blow as they were beaten 1-0 by promotion rivals, Sheffield United at Elland Road.

Chris Basham's well-struck effort proved to be the difference between the two sides on the day, as the Blades moved ahead of Marcelo Bielsa's side in the league table.

Basham's effort was the only shot on target in the entire game, and Chris Wilder's side were hugely impressive at both ends of the pitch.

Leeds' Tyler Roberts took to Twitter to issue his thoughts on the game and has insisted that Leeds' promotion hopes are not over with eight league games remaining of this year's campaign.

Roberts has looked like a completely different player since he moved into a midfield role and has filled the void left by Samuel Saiz perfectly for Bielsa's side.

Leeds will be hoping that Roberts can build on these impressive showings as the season progresses, and he'll be keen to fire the Whites to a long-awaited promotion back into the Premier League.

Bielsa's men are next in action against relegation-threatened, Millwall at Elland Road after the international break.

The Verdict:

This is a frustrating defeat for Leeds.

They needed to win this one to give themselves breathing space in the automatic promotion places, so this could be a season-defining moment in their season.

They need to dust themselves down and get back to their best when they return to action.
