Frank Lampard returns to Stamford Bridge for the first time as manager, as his Derby side looked to cause an upset in the last 16 of the EFL Cup this evening.

Lampard took charge of the Rams during the summer and has guided his side to 6th in the Championship table and they will be hoping to cement their place in the play-off positions when they return to league action at the weekend.

One player who has given Lampard a selection headache in recent weeks is Jack Marriott. The former Peterborough striker has scored three goals in his last four league appearances as he stakes a claim for a starting spot ahead of David Nugent for the Rams.

Marriott is confident that his side can match Chelsea tonight in Lampard's return to where he made a name for himself.

'We will go there in good confidence. We've had a good run of form recently and the confidence in the squad is good,' Marriott told Sky Sports.

'I think we can give a good account of ourselves and hopefully if we can, nick it.

The 24-year-old admitted his shock at the direction his career path has taken him down in recent years and is looking forward to their tough task against the Blues this evening.

'If you told me when I was 11 or 12 that by the time I was 24 I would be playing for Frank Lampard and have an away game at Stamford Bridge then I wouldn't have believed you.'

The striker praised the amount of depth in the Derby squad this season and insists that Lampard's side can only get better as the season moves forward.

'The quality and standard of our performances is only going to go up because we demand so much of ourselves.

'We've got good squad depth so it means everyone's pushing each other and that will ultimately means performances will get higher.'

The Verdict:

Marriott and his Derby teammates will certainly fancy their chances at Stamford Bridge tonight but the pressure will be off Frank Lampard's side as they are huge underdogs for this one.

You would expect to see Marriott causing the Chelsea defence some problems and the forward will be confident of adding to his impressive goal tally this season.
