Millwall are set to send in-demand defender Hayden Muller out on loan to SPFL side St Johnstone and the move could be announced today, according to Football Insider.

Former Lions assistant Callum Davidson has been in charge of the Scottish club since June 2020 and it seems he's set to take advantage of his links with Gary Rowett and the south London club.

Football Insider has revealed that there were multiple English clubs keen on Muller but St Johnstone have won the race for him.

It is understood that the two clubs have now agreed terms over a loan deal, meaning the 19-year-old's move north of the border could be announced in the next 24 hours.

Muller is a product of the Millwall academy system and after making his debut in the 2019/20 campaign was given further chances to impress by Rowett last season.

The versatile defender, who is comfortable at both centre-back and right-back, did not disappoint and was handed a new contract at The Den earlier this summer.

The teenager is someone that Rowett has spoken highly of in the past but it seems the Millwall boss feels his development is better served away from the club right now.

The Verdict

This looks like an ideal move for all parties involved.

Heading into the season, Muller looked like someone that could play a more significant role for the Millwall senior side this term after impressing when given chances last term.

However, given the defenders available to Rowett at the moment and with new signings in that area linked, it seems as though a loan deal is the only thing that will guarantee the 19-year-old regular football.

The chance to test himself at senior level week in, week out, should be massive for his development, while St Johnstone are getting a hungry and confident defender that is as capable with the ball as his feet as without.
