According to Sky Sports, West Bromwich Albion are interested in signing Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson this summer.

Gibson’s future at the Riverside Stadium remains in doubt this summer, following Boro’s relegation back to the Sky Bet Championship at the end of the 2016/17 campaign.

Despite Boro suffering relegation from the Premier League after just one season, Gibson impressed for his boyhood club, enhancing his reputation with a series of excellent performances.

The 24-year-old made 38 Premier League appearances, featuring in every one of Boro’s top-flight fixtures, whilst scoring one goal, which came in September’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Helping Boro to 11 clean sheets across the season, Gibson also earned a senior England call-up for the first time in his career, although he is yet to be handed a cap.

Garry Monk may be reluctant to lose Gibson this summer, and has been told by Boro’s owner, Steve Gibson, that he doesn’t have to sell the defender, who he hopes will be part of another promotion campaign with the Teessiders.

However, there is concrete interest in Gibson from the Premier League, and a move back to the top-flight may improve the 24-year-old’s chance of making the England squad for next summer’s World Cup in Russia.

Boro fans… Do you think Gibson will leave the Riverside Stadium this summer or will he remain with his boyhood club? Let us know your thoughts!
