Liam Scales is a player that is certainly in demand heading into the summer, with his performances for Irish side, UCD seemingly not going unnoticed.

It has been reported by The Irish Times, that the centre-back was attracting interest from both Bristol Rovers, and Premier League champions, Manchester City.

If Scales was to join Manchester City, the plan would be for him to play for the under 23's side, a move in which he seemingly wasn't keen on.

The Irish Sun reported that the youngster had turned down the opportunity to join the Premier League side in favour of remaining with UCD, where he has made 19 appearances so far this season in the Irish Premier Division.

But Bristol Rovers are said to be long-term admirers of Scales, with Graham Coughlan revealing that they are interested in pursuing a deal for the 20-year-old (quotes sourced from Bristol Live).

"He's one of many, but Liam Scales is someone I've looked at, I do have an interest in and quite like.

"He is a player I like, he is a player I think would fit the profile - he's young, hungry, enthusiastic and a left-footed centre-half that offers a bit of pace and a bit of height, so he's a player that would fit our profile."

With Scales reportedly turning down Manchester City already, Bristol Rovers will face an uphill task to land his signature, that's for sure.

But it's refreshing to see a player wanting to play regular football at senior level, instead of dropping back into academy football, which he would have been doing with Manchester City.

It's set to be an interesting few weeks ahead, and Graham Coughlan's side will be hoping they can come to an agreement to sign the youngster up ahead of the 2019/2020 season.

Scales' development will certainly be best served in senior football, whether that be with UCD or Bristol Rovers, and it's easy to forget that he still is only 20 years of age.

But you have to feel that if Bristol Rovers were to agree a fee to sign the defender, then he'll surely have his head turned, especially if the League One side can offer him first-team assurances next season.

In today's game, money talks though, and Manchester City definitely have enough of that to convince the youngster to sign for them before the transfer window closes.

So he's clearly got something about him if he's attracting interest from one of the best teams in England, and Scales will need to weigh up his options before making a decision on his next move, as it could make or break his career.
