Preston North End’s Jordan Hugill looks set to make a surprise move to Premier League side Crystal Palace after the Eagles had an £8m offer accepted for the striker.

This will put an end to the intense speculation surrounding his future that has gone on for the past two transfer windows.

The 25-year old handed in a transfer request in the summer as he tried to force a move from Deepdale, however the club stood firm and turned down several bids for the striker.

Once again, he was linked with a move to fellow Championship sides such as Leeds and Reading earlier in the month, but the Sun are reporting that Palace have reached an agreement with North End.

It will be a big blow for Alex Neil as Hugill is the club’s top scorer with eight goals so far this campaign. That follows on from the 12 he hit in the league last season.

The powerful attacker had just under 18 months left on his deal and had very little intention of signing a new contract with Preston.

The Verdict

This is a fantastic move for Jordan Hugill who probably didn’t expect to have any serious interest from a Premier League club.

There are big question marks over whether he is capable of handling the step up to the top-flight but he has fought he way from the lower leagues to get his chance.

News of this deal will come as a major blow to Championship sides, particularly Reading, who will now have to focus their attention elsewhere if they want to land a striker before the deadline.
