Gary Rowett and Derby County are enjoying a fine run of form in the Sky Bet Championship, with the Rams looking like an outfit more than capable of competing for promotion back to the Premier League.

The Rams currently sit fourth in the table, and Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa, was further evidence that Rowett’s side are on the right track in the race for promotion.

Goals from Andreas Weimann and Johnny Russell secured all three points, but Derby’s defence was also exceptional, not giving much away against a talented Villa side.

Championship stat guru, Goodbrand Stats (@StatsChristian), has now been looking at Scott Carson’s performances for the Rams, highlighting the incredible record he holds at the Pride Park Stadium.

Carson has made 52 appearances at home for Derby, conceding just 38 goals during that time and managing to keep 29 clean sheets, leaving the goalkeeper with an outstanding percentage record.

On average, Carson has conceded under a goal per game and has an outstanding 55.7% clean sheet record from those 52 appearances.

The 32-year-old’s clean sheet against Aston Villa on Saturday was the goalkeeper’s 10th of the season, and third in three outings.

The Verdict

Carson’s stats for Derby at home are extremely impressive, and it is hard to imagine many other goalkeepers will boast a similar kind of record over that period of time.

Rowett’s side has plenty of attacking talent, but teams competing at the top end of the table need to have defensive stability, which Carson is key to delivering at the Pride Park Stadium.
