Speaking to Leeds United’s official website, Stuart Dallas has revealed how hard the Whites are working on their defence.

Leeds have enjoyed a flying start to the Sky Bet Championship season under Thomas Christiansen, and after seven fixtures of the season, they top the table.

Key to their success in the early stage of the season has been their watertight defence, which has only conceded twice in the Championship from the opening fixtures.

Both those goals came on the opening day of the season against Bolton Wanderers, and since Pontus Jansson’s return to the starting XI, Leeds are yet to concede – recording six straight clean sheets.

Speaking about Leeds’ defensive record, Dallas said: “We work very hard at defending, right from the front and I think that has shown in every game so far.

“We’ve recorded six clean sheets on the bounce now and in this league that is a difficult thing to achieve.

“We are not just defending though, we are playing good football and winning games, we have to take it one game at a time though, it was a big result on Tuesday, but we must just take it one game at a time.”

Dallas has found his opportunities limited so far under Christiansen, and has been restricted to substitute appearances in the Championship.

However, the 26-year-old has managed to get his name on the scoresheet on two occasions, with the latest of those coming in the 2-0 victory over Birmingham City on Tuesday – the result that put Leeds top of the Championship.

The Northern Irish international is now pushing for an opportunity in the starting XI for this weekend’s trip to Millwall.

The Verdict

Leeds’ defence in the Championship this season has been excellent, particularly since Jansson has come back into the team, with the Swedish centre-back a real leader at Elland Road.

However, as Dallas mentions, Leeds’ defending as a team has been impressive, with the forward thinking players working hard.

Dallas himself has endured a mixed start to the season, with his opportunities limited, but the midfielder perhaps playing some of the best football he has played in his Leeds career.
