Former Ipswich Town manager Paul Hurst is interested in talking to Notts County about the vacant managerial role at Meadow Lane, according to reports from Nottingham Post journalist, Leigh Curtis.

This comes after the Magpies, who currently sit 22nd in League Two, parted company with Harry Kewell after just over two months in charge of the League Two club.

Reports have now emerged that Hurst, who has been without a job for almost a month following his departure from Ipswich, would be keen to speak to chairman Alan Hardy regarding the vacant post at the East Midlands club.

The Magpies may face a stumbling block, however, with Hurst’s former club Shrewsbury interested in bringing him back to the club he left at the end of last season.

The former Grimsby boss guided the Shropshire club to a League One play-off final last term, where they were defeated by Rotherham United.

The Verdict

It would be a huge, huge coup for Notts to land Hurst.

It may not have worked out for him at Ipswich, but he did magnificently well for Shrewsbury last season and had them on the brink of promotion.

The 44-year-old's managerial career has been impressive on the whole and he would give Notts fighting chance in the race for survival.
