Leeds United have an interest in signing Frederico Venancio, who spent the 2017/18 campaign on-loan across with Championship with Sheffield Wednesday.

A report in the Sheffield Star has credited Leeds with an interest in the centre-back, who has returned to Vitoria de Setubal, having spent the last 12 months on-loan at Hillsborough.

Venancio made 25 appearances across all competitions for the Owls, including 20 in the Championship.

The 25-year-old impressed during the second-half of the season under Jos Luhukay, after a switch to a three-man defence.

Sheffield Wednesday are interested in bringing Venancio back permanently this summer after his impressive loan spell, but the Sheffield Star are reporting that a deal isn’t looking likely at this current time.

Vitoria have reportedly agreed a six-figure transfer fee with a Portuguese top-flight club for Venancio’s service, whilst Leeds continue to lurk, with Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites reportedly interested.

At Elland Road, it has been a slow start to the summer, with Bielsa’s squad looking thin as the 2018/19 campaign approaches.

There have been a number of exits already, whilst Lewis Baker has been the only addition made to Bielsa’s squad so far.

The 23-year-old midfielder has arrived on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

The Verdict

Venancio would be a superb addition to Bielsa’s squad at Elland Road.

The 25-year-old took time adapting to the Championship, but by the end of the season he looked settled.

Having played a lot of football in a three-man defence at Hillsborough, he could be ideal for Bielsa, who is likely to turn to a similar system at Leeds.
