According to HITC Sport, Ryan Yates has agreed a new two-year deal with Nottingham Forest, quashing speculation surrounding the youngster’s future.

Yates’ contract at the City Ground was set to expire in the summer, but reports are suggesting that the midfielder has agreed fresh terms with the Sky Bet Championship outfit, keeping him with the Reds until the summer of 2020.

The 20-year-old is yet to make a senior appearance for Forest, but has enjoyed a number of loan spells away from the City Ground, linking up with Barrow, Shrewsbury and most recently, Notts County.

The midfielder is currently on-loan at Forest’s neighbours, with Yates turning in some impressive performances for Notts County, helping Kevin Nolan’s side to second in the League Two table and in the race for promotion to the third-tier.

Yates has made 29 appearances across all competitions during his most recent loan spell, already scoring six goals from midfield for Notts, as well as adding a further two assists.

The midfielder featured for 90 minutes of Notts’ 1-0 victory over Brentford in the FA Cup this weekend, as Jonathan Stead’s goal secured Nolan’s side a passage through to the fourth-round of the competition, where they will come up against either Wolves or Swansea City.

The Verdict

Yates has been extremely impressive for Notts County this season, and Forest will have been keeping a close eye on the midfielder’s progression.

Over the course of this season, Yates’ reputation has grown and agreeing new terms with the 20-year-old is a boost for Forest.

Yates’ next task will be to break into an impressive pool of youngsters currently in the Nottingham Forest first-team.
