The future of Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder should be sorted in the next week which will also be significant for Sunderland as they search for a new manager.

Wilder, who has worked with prospective new Black Cats owner Stewart Donald before, is the odds-on favourite to take over at the Stadium of Light due to issues at board level at Sheffield United.

That has come about because of a fallout between the club’s co-owners Kevin McCabe and HRH Prince Abdullah bin Mosaad bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

It has left the former Oxford boss uncertain about his transfer budget for this summer and the long-term direction the club is going in.

However, Chronicle Live are reporting that the co-owners of the Yorkshire club are set for a meeting in the coming days in London that will be crucial to the future of the Blades boss.

The 50-year old is a boyhood Sheffield United fan and has done a fantastic job with the club, earning promotion to the Championship in his first season, whilst they finished 10th this season.

The Verdict

Sheffield United need this mess sorted out as soon as possible and fans will be hoping it results in Chris Wilder staying at the club because he has done a great job since joining.

Yet, Sunderland will be hoping for the opposite and will be desperate to appoint Wilder given his record in League One in particular.

Now though, all both clubs can do is wait and see and it will be ultimately down to the manager as to what he wants to do.
