Reading’s Yakou Meite is being looked at by Serie A outfit Sampdoria, according to reports in the Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Ivorian 23-year-old was in decent form last season in the Championship and is now being eyed up by Italian club Sampdoria.
According to the report from the Italian outlet, Sampdoria are looking to bolster their attacking options, and while their main target is Zenit’s Emiliano Rigoni, if they are unable to bring him to the city of Genoa then they will go for Reading’s star man instead.
The Reading forward may be wanted for his versatility in attack, with the ability to play on both flanks and through the middle.
There is no suggested fee within the report, however, and with the ex-PSG player turning into an important figure at the Madjeski, it is hard to imagine them willing to part with him on the cheap.
He played 37 times in the Championship last year, and scored 12 times – comfortably the most for Reading.
The Parisian-born forward joined Reading from PSG in 2016 and has a contract until 2022.
It would be bad news for Reading if Meite was targeted by Samp, for obvious reasons.
He is the top scorer at the club and they relied a lot on his performances last season. The team have struggled for goals and he has shown good composure at times to become the club’s top scorer.
Meite is likely to cost a decent amount of money bearing in mind his importance and age to Reading, but his head could get turned if a club the size of Sampdoria registered a serious interest.
