Nottingham Forest defender Eric Lichaj has admitted it might take new boss Aitor Karanka a few weeks to get his ideas across to the players.

However, the American is confident that the promotion-winning manager is the right man to turn the Reds fortunes around.

Karanka took charge of his first game on Saturday, with Forest losing 1-0 to Aston Villa. And, Lichaj told the Nottingham Post that the ex-Boro boss hadn’t had enough time to change things for that game.

I don’t want to give away too much, when it comes to what he has done and said to us so far, but he has not had too much time to change things so far.”

If you ask me the question in two or three weeks, I am sure I will have a lot more answers for you. Because he will have had time to get across more of his ideas. I am sure we will be in a good place before long.”

It doesn’t get any easier for Karanka, with a trip to leaders Wolves next up this weekend. The Black Country side have lost just one game at Molineux all season and boast a ten point lead at the top.

The Verdict

It was a disappointing start for Aitor Karanka but realistically his job is about building for next season and identifying where they need to improve.

As Lichaj says, it’s too soon to see how the players are reacting to the new methods and it may even be months before Karanka puts his own stamp on the team.

Wolves will be a big test for the Reds and even though it’s a difficult game it is one Karanka will learn a lot from.
