New information has emerged on Marcelo Bielsa conducts his Leeds United training sessions and picks his matchday squad, specifically with his approach to injured players, report the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The club's head of medicine and performance, Rob Price, revealed that if a player cannot perform to a high standard in training then Bielsa will not use them that weekend.

“Marcelo’s a big believer that unless the players train in the week and are able to carry out the play, they’re no good to him on a Saturday anyway," Price said.

"They don’t want players dipping in and just turning up because they’ll be unable to perform."

The Whites have had a host of injury problems this season, with Price revealing that Bamford's latest is among 45 that have been suffered in the side already.

But they still sit in the automatic promotion places with 30 matches played and only behind league-leaders Norwich City on goal difference, although were comfortably beaten by the Canaries at Elland Road last Saturday.

This weekend sees them travel to fellow promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough in what is sure to be another stern test of Bielsa and his side's credentials.

The verdict

This sounds pretty accurate as far as Bielsa's approach goes.

He is a no-nonsense manager with a set style of play so it makes perfect sense for him to only include players on match days who he knows will definitely do their jobs.

It also explains why certain players have not come back into the first team as quickly as many initially hoped or as quickly as they may have done at other clubs.
