Bolton Wanders' clash with Aston Villa at the University of Bolton stadium will go ahead as planned, the club have confirmed.

There were fears that the match could be cancelled with the council announcing that they needed to receive assurances that the club could afford to host it, but those fears have now been put to bed.

The takeover of the club by Laurence Bassini meant the club's debts were cleared and all stadium staff would be able to work.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday evening, Marc Iles of the Bolton News tweeted: "Official confirmation recieved that the Wanderers v Villa game is ON."

Despite all their off-field troubles Bolton remain in with a shot of survival, although it will take a huge effort over the remaining four games.

Phil Parkinson's side currently sit ten points adrift so cannot afford to lose any more of their matches and considering Villa have won their last eight, it does not look good.

The verdict

Even though it could well be the game that confirms Bolton's relegation to League One it will still be a boost for the fans to get it on.

There are plenty of question marks over Bassini's credentials to run the club but for now, at least, they can enjoy a semblance of stability.

The real work will start in the summer.
