Aston Villa fans haven't had much to cheer over recent days after their good run of form was halted emphatically by rivals Wolves on Saturday.

However, there was finally some good news last night as Jack Grealish returned to action playing for the U-23 side.

The playmaker managed an hour as Villa ran out 2-0 winners against Wolves.

Grealish hasn't played this season since suffering a freak injury against Watford in pre-season that required him to have kidney surgery.

The 22-year old was clearly delighted to get back out on the pitch last night and sent a message out to fans after the game.

Steve Bruce had said after Grealish had suffered his injury that it was a major blow and that he'd been trying to work a formation to bring the best out of the attacking midfielder, which he then had to scrap.

Villa looked toothless against Wolves and his spark will be much-needed as he steps up his recovery.

The Verdict

This is very good news for Aston Villa. Jack Grealish has undoubted talent and many had high hopes for him this season until injury struck.

He brings qualities that few in the Villa squad have and will certainly help create more chances for Jonathan Kodjia.

Although, fans need to be patient. Players stress the importance of pre-season and Grealish is going to be way behind in fitness initially so will need to get up to speed at his own pace.
