Sunderland's impressive run of form continued in League One, as they beat promotion-chasing rivals Accrington Stanley on Wednesday evening.

Ross Stewart and Charlie Wyke were both on the scoresheet on the night as Lee Johnson's side picked up another three points in their quest to return to the Championship this term.

It means that the Black Cats are now sat third in the League One table, and now find themselves just two points adrift of the automatic promotion places in the third-tier this term.

Dion Sanderson was one player to return to the starting XI for the game against Accrington Stanley, and the on-loan Wolves defender played the full 90 minutes in the centre of the Sunderland defence alongside Luke O'Nien, as they kept another clean sheet.

Sanderson has made 22 appearances so far this term, but missed their Papa John's Trophy final win over Tranmere Rovers, and will have been keen to make a positive impact on his return to the team.

The 21-year-old took to social media following the win over Accrington Stanley, who are now five points adrift of the play-off positions themselves.

Plenty of the Stadium of Light faithful were quick to respond to Sanderson's social post, with many praising him for his impact with the team so far, whilst also pleading with the defender to stick around beyond this year's campaign.
