The position that Leeds United find themselves in is absolutely superb, particularly when you consider Marcelo Bielsa’s thin squad and the amount of injuries he’s had to contend with so far this season.

Leeds have a number of first-team players starting to return, whilst another group will be back available to Bielsa at some time in early 2019.

Add to that, Leeds will also have the January transfer window, where they can look to add further bodies, however unlikely that is beginning to look as Bielsa plays things down.

Here at FLW, we have opted to take a look at the starting XI we could well see in early February, when key personal have returned and Bielsa has done what he wants to do in winter window.

Starting in goal, we believe faith will be kept with Bailey Peacock-Farrell, although that will cause controversy. Leeds will sign another goalkeeper, but the calibre they target remains to be seen.

Bielsa likes Peacock-Farrell’s distribution and it’d be no surprise to see him continue.

In defence, Barry Douglas and Pontus Jansson are starring right now, and in the New Year, Bielsa will expect to be able to welcome back Liam Cooper and Luke Ayling, who are currently absent with injury. The quartet are certainly Bielsa’s best defensive unit.

Ahead of them is Kalvin Phillips, who should continue to shield the defence and provide Bielsa with the third centre-back he often turns to.

Mateusz Klich has impressed in an advanced midfield role this year and will be a mainstay, whilst alongside him, Adam Forshaw, Samu Saiz and Izzy Brown will be competing. We’ve opted for the latter, who could provide a real goal threat.

Out wide will be the impressive Pablo Hernandez, whilst on the left we’ve gone with Ibai Gomez, who could be a January addition to Bielsa’s squad, with Leeds continuing to be linked with the winger currently excelling in La Liga. The left wing is perhaps the only outfield position in the starting XI that needs strengthening, with Ezgjan Alioski continuing to struggle.

Despite Patrick Bamford’s return from injury, it’s hard to look beyond Kemar Roofe leading the line right into the New Year.
