Not being the most prolific of goal scorers in the Championship, Maxime Colin almost didn’t know what to do with himself after he netted to give Birmingham City a much-needed three points against a resilient Blackburn Rovers team on Tuesday night.

At St Andrew’s, Colin’s first-half finish was the only thing to separate the two sides after 90 minutes as it ended 1-0 to the Blues.

It was only the 27-year-old’s third goal for the club since he arrived at St Andrew’s from Brentford in 2017. It was in his first season that the Frenchman grabbed his first two goals for the club after going the entirety of the 18/19 season without hitting the back of the net.

After a sustained amount of possession and good build-up play, the Blues were rewarded for their patience when Daniel Crowley’s clipped cross was met by the oncoming right back.

Colin had some ground to make up to greet the cross which meant that he had built up more than enough speed to crash into the oncoming Christian Walton, who attempted to smother the strike but failed. In turn, he only made contact with Colin himself who toppled over the goalkeeper and into the net with the ball.

Amid his celebrations, Colin rolled up onto the head he had just used to score with and fell forward into the net.

One photographer at the game managed to perfectly capture the moment of Colin’s rather unconventional celebration that the player has now featured on his own Instagram account.

Along with the hilarious photo, Colin captioned the post by saying: “Good three points yesterday. Still working on my goal celebration.”

Fans, though, may argue his celebration was perfect and will want more of the same in their second consecutive game at St Andrew’s against Luton Town on Saturday.

The verdict

Footballer's showing their personalities on social media is always a good way to connect with their fans. It is clear from the comments that the Birmingham City fans loved the upload.

Whilst going forward and scoring goals might not quite become a weekly occurrence for Colin, his defence resilience and toughness is a great asset to Pep Clotet's side.
