Leeds United have acted swiftly following Saturday’s 4-1 defeat to Cardiff City, with Andrea Radrizzani overhauling Thomas Christiansen’s management team and replacing them with Paul Heckingbottom and his Barnsley contingent.

Christiansen was sacked on Sunday evening, but this morning, Leeds have announced the arrival of Heckingbottom, with the former Barnsley boss turning his back on Oakwell in favour of a move to West Yorkshire and Elland Road.

Radrizzani and co have handed the 40-year-old an 18-month deal at Elland Road, with Heckingbottom contracted at Elland Road until the summer of 2019.

The club’s official Twitter account (@LUFC) have moved to share an image of Heckingbottom alongside Angus Kinnear, Leeds’ Managing Director, with the new head-coach signing his 18-month contract.

Heckingbottom has inherited a side currently 10th in the Championship table, with Leeds seven points adrift of the play-off zone following a miserable run of form.

Leeds are without a victory sine Boxing Day – a run that has dented the club’s hopes of a top-six finish and ultimately cost Christiansen his job.

Heckingbottom’s first game in-charge of Leeds will be Saturday lunchtime’s Yorkshire derby with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
