Mansfield Town CEO Carolyn Radford has been pictured alongside Andy Lonergan, teasing that the veteran stopper could well be the club's new goalkeeper.

Lonergan finds himself without a club this summer after his release from West Bromwich Albion, who he failed to make an appearance for in 2020/21 after the Baggies drafted him in as cover for the likes of Sam Johnstone.

Now, Radford has shared a picture on his Instagram story in the last 24 hours, alongside Lonergan and their respective partners, teasing that the 37-year-old could well be Mansfield's new goalkeeper:

The veteran goalkeeper has a wealth of experience, though, having featured for the likes of Preston North End, Leeds United, Fulham, Bolton Wanderers, Wolverhampton Wanderers and even Liverpool over the course of his long career.

Mansfield finished in an underwhelming 16th place in League Two last season, whilst Lonergan was on the books with West Brom, who suffered relegation back into the Championship.

The club's retained list on the back of the 2020/21 campaign concluding confirmed that Marek Stech, whilst under contract, has been made available for transfer by Mansfield, as they plan to shake up their goalkeeping department.

The Verdict

Look, whether Lonergan is actually signing for Mansfield or not, we aren't sure.

However, Radford is teasing the idea and given Mansfield decision with Stech, you can forgive us for putting two and two together.

Lonergan has plenty of experience and would be a good face to have in-and-around the dressing room at Mansfield were he to arrive.
