Aston Villa’s injury woes are continuing to ease, with images emerging this morning of Gabby Agbonlahor in training, as the club’s official Twitter account (@AVFCOfficial) confirm the striker has linked back up with the first-team.

Agbonlahor, 31, has been out of action for a considerable period, with his last involvement coming in the draw with Sheffield United at Villa Park last month.

That appearance was Agbonlahor’s sixth of an injury-hit campaign, with the striker failing to have any form of impact on Villa’s promotion push, which is gradually gathering pace heading into February.

Villa currently sit fourth in the table, and after four consecutive Sky Bet Championship victories, Steve Bruce’s side are looking a good bet for at least a play-off spot, with the Villans also having ambitions of pushing on for the second automatic promotion spot.

Bruce’s side took a break from Championship action due to the FA Cup over the weekend, but will face Sheffield United tomorrow, in a reverse of the fixture Agbonlahor made his last appearance in.

The Blades currently sit narrowly outside the play-off zone, and are one of a host of clubs looking to catch up to Villa in the coming months.

The Verdict

Agbonlahor has struggled to make an impression in recent years at Villa Park, and it is likely that his return will not mean he is a serious contender for the starting XI.

However, Bruce’s options are limited in attack without Jonathan Kodjia, and Agbonlahor’s experience could open the door for a slight opportunity.

It is shaping into a huge second-half of the season for Villa, and Bruce’s side need all the help they can.
