West Bromwich Albion ace Matheus Pereira has claimed that he is working hard to improve his English so he can communicate better with his teammates.

The Brazilian winger has been one of the standout players for West Brom so far this season, after joining the club on a season-long loan from Sporting Lisbon on transfer deadline day.

The 24-year-old has produced a number of dazzling displays in the Championship and has played a key role in ensuring Slaven Bilic's side sit top of the league table, midway through the second international break of the season.

The forward has revealed that he is in the process of learning English so that he can communicate with his teammates better on the pitch and says that Grady Diangana and Filip Krovinovic have done a great job by helping translate for him.

“My English, maybe in two months I will do my first video interview in English,” Pereira said, as quoted by the Express and Star.

“I’m watching a lot of films and I’m in the process of getting an English teacher to help me with two lessons a week so that my communication with my team-mates is better.

“In the dressing room, the fact that football is universal helps, but Grady and Filip have really helped me. Filip speaks Spanish and Grady has a little Spanish too. Sometimes we communicate in that form, but I can speak a little English now too.

“I can get by. When I was playing in Germany, all the players spoke to me in English. I’m all right, it’s only when people talk very quickly that I lose the meaning.”

Pereira has made ten appearances for West Brom in all competitions so far this season and now has two goals in his last three matches for the Baggies.

The winger will be hoping to continue his good form when West Brom return to action against Middlesbrough at the weekend.

The Verdict

Pereira has been superb for West Brom so far this season and he's looking like he could be an excellent season for the Baggies. He's a very talented footballer and he's played a key role in Albion's promising start to the Championship season.

He's got terrific pace and fantastic ability on the ball and he's shown in the past few matches that he's capable of adding goals to his game too.

It's good that he's learning English, but he seems to have settled into life at his new club very well and has certainly impressed Baggies fans by doing most of his talking on the pitch so far.
