Last night, AFC Wimbledon parted company with their manager Wally Downes following an upturn in results under assistant manager Glyn Hodges, who has been in recent charge of the first team.

Last month, Downes was charged by the FA for breaching betting rules, and the Dons board then chose to suspend their manager for the offence for the forseeable future.

Following a successful run under Hodges though, and despite the FA finishing their disciplinary process, AFC Wimbledon's board still saw it neccesary to dispense of their manager and search for a new man that can help take the club forward on and off the pitch.

Downes took over charge of the club last year in December 2018 and led them through 42 games up until his suspension last month, winning 11 games, drawing 13 and losing 18. Despite their struggles under the 58 year-old manager this term, Downes played a big part in Wimbledon's future last term, keeping the club safe from relegation to League Two.

Wimbledon are currently 21st in League One with 12 points from 14 games and have gone on a run where they have won their last three league games under Glyn Hodges.
