Leeds United travel to the Valley this weekend to play Charlton Athletic, with Marcelo Bielsa's side looking to consolidate their position at the top of the Championship and maintain their form as they look to secure an automatic promotion spot next May.

To achieve this Bielsa will be looking to maintain a strong squad, with the depth to cope with the inevitable suspensions or injuries that will come over the course of a tough Championship season.

Therefore it may come as no surprise that the Argentine is not planning on sending striker Ryan Edmondson out on-loan in the January window, with him supposedly changing his mind on the matter, according to a report on Football Insider.

The 18-year-old is one of the emerging talents at Elland Road and has been a prominent figure in the club's under-23 setup, though some people may argue that a loan move in the EFL for the second half of the season could do him a world of good for his personal development.

So is Bielsa making the right decision to keep Edmondson at Leeds?

We discuss........

Chris Gallagher

"I'm torn on this.

"Whilst there are risks associated with any loan move, as you need to ensure the player gets game time, there are plenty of benefits too.

"And, giving Edmondson the chance to prove himself in the tough, competitive lower leagues will help him develop as a player significantly. He will be out of his comfort zone and will be challenged physically and mentally.

"So, even though keeping him at Thorp Arch and learning from the current coaching setup is going to help, playing first-team football would be a better option and I'm sure there are plenty of clubs who would take a chance on the striker if he was available."

Dean Cooke

"I'm not too sure. I can understand it from Bielsa's point of view, as their squad is quite thin compared to other sides in the Championship.

"However, what he needs is game time regularly in competitive football which would allow him to develop certain aspects of his game ready to come back and play for Leeds.

"So, it's probably the right move for the club but the wrong decision for the player himself, always a tricky one though, and who knows maybe he will get a chance at Elland Road in the coming months."

Is this the WORST Leeds United XI from the last 15 years? We'll let YOU decide....

Jacob Potter

"It’s the wrong decision if true.

"I understand that Leeds aren’t blessed with a number of options in attack but surely Edmondson’s development is going to affected if he isn’t getting regular game time under his belt in senior football?

"Marcelo Bielsa already has Eddie Nketiah and Patrick Bamford available to him in the senior squad, and I just can’t see Edmondson getting much of a chance in the first-team this season.

"He’s already shown that he is good enough to at least be given a chance in the first-team, after impressing with the Leeds under 23’s side last term.

"Leeds could regret this I fear, as he’s wasted with the under 23’s for another season."
