Sheffield Wednesday have failed to strengthen their squad during the summer transfer window.

It has been reported that the Owls are under a transfer embargo, but the club have yet to confirm this.

The club are seemingly in need of players leaving the club and shifting some deadwood in order to balance the books.

One player who could be high on the list for a Hillsborough exit is Steven Fletcher.

The Scotland international was an 87th minute substitute for Jos Luhukay’s side in the 3-2 reverse way to Wigan on the weekend and is one of the bigger earners at the club.

Earlier in the window, the former Sunderland striker was linked with a move to Greece, but that failed to materialise.

Having been out eight months with a knee injury that the forward picked up in December, Fletcher is finally back fit.

The 31-year-old had not played a competitive game since Luhukay has been in charge before Saturday’s cameo.

With three days left in the transfer window and with Fletcher fit once more, is it time for Wednesday to cash-in on the veteran forward?

We discuss…

Jay Williams

If they can find a suitor, they have to let Fletcher go.

He is down the pecking order up front once everyone is back fit and his age and injury record shows that he is not quite the player he used to be.

Getting him off the wage books would free up some funds for the Owls to bring in their own players.

George Dagless

I'm torn.

He's not been in the side of late due to injury, and poor form and Wednesday need the cash but even if they sell him are they going to reinvest?

It might actually be worth keeping him as an option, but it surely depends on how much the Owls need to free up their finances.

Alfie Burns

He’s not the player he was, but I think Wednesday need to be moving on some of their more valuable players.

Fletcher won’t be worth much in today’s market, and Wednesday seem to be in an awful financial situation, so I’d be looking to move others on.

Gary Hutchinson

I'd say yes, but they can't replace him right now so why would they weaken their hand without an opportunity to add to their ranks?

Fletcher is getting into 'veteran' territory, but surely that is better than an empty seat in the dressing room?
